The Name that Wasn’t

No voice, no noise.
No reflection of oneself.
No definition; none for assumption.
I am not myself.

Now here, now there.
I pity myself.
Now this, now that.
I am not myself.

Neither today nor tomorrow.
I can’t portray the inner self.
One’s thoughts, another’s actions.
I am not myself.

Neither from the rain
Nor from the draught.
From where do I then
Glean myself?

I am but a name
That tiny nothing
Neither more nor less.
I remain myself.

  1. Hello Suyog, this is lovely – but it prompted me to write a reply. I hope you Don’t mind:

    The Name that Is

    My voice, my noise.
    My reflection of myself.
    I define; not for assumption.
    I am only myself.

    Now here, now there.
    I drive forward.
    Now this, now that.
    I create myself.

    both today and tomorrow.
I will portray the inner self.
    One’s thoughts, one’s actions.
    I will be myself.

    From the rain
    From the draught.
    From all places I
    Glean myself!

I am not only a name
    That tiny nothing
    I continue to be more
    I become myself

    1. This is a lovely piece, Geoffrey. Why don’t you put it on your blog? Or, add it to your collection. I am glad to know that it prompted you to write. Please keep writing. 🙂

      1. I wish it had been “Nobody’s thoughts, nobody’s actions” in place of “One’s thoughts, one’s actions” in Geoffrey’s response!! Lovely to see both the works!!

  2. The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” —Mark Twain.

Today (29th Oct. 2019) is that other day, Suyog. 🙂
